• I am setting up a website redesign on a new server for a client. Currently it’s under a temporary URL before we switch over the domain names. The client was nervous and wanted all URLs to point to the new server prior to changing the domain name, so rather than going through every single page of content to check links, I exported the database content, did a search and replace for URLs, then re-imported the database through PHP MyAdmin. There were no errors or messages when I did this.

Now, all my widget content is gone. ALL of them. I don’t have a backup of the HTML that was in any of them, and there were many. What happened? I have just compared the two databases (ie: my backup and the edited file), and they are the same length (apart from a few extra characters due to the URLs). How do I get my widget content back? The time it’s going to take to re-set up everything is just not acceptable…

Anyone know what happened here? I’m getting desperate…

This same thing happened to me… Any ideas?? Please help:-(

Update on this… Content of the widgets was still in my backup – and reappeared when I restored my DB.

The content for the text area widgets is stored in an array — and when you edit the content in mysql front end (e.g. sqlyog), the widgets all disappear.

I restored the db… then in the updated db (where I did the find/replace) – I removed the wp_options table… And loaded the new db back in (all but wp-options).

I manually edited the fields of wp_options, except for the widget ones… I went in to wp-admin of the site, and manually updated my widgets with the new URL.

    PITA — But it worked.

Hope this saves someone else some stress.

    Adam
