database out of date upgrade

    Hello if anyone can guide me through this problem, I would be highly thankful, So i just updated to the new wordpress and now for some strange reason, after I enter my username and password and try to access my dashboard I get

    Database Upgrade Required

    Your WordPress database is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue.

    The upgrade process may take a while, so please be patient.

    Upgrade WordPress

    then when i click on “upgrade wordpress” nothing happens!

    Any idea what could have gone wrong or why it’s not letting me upgrade and access my dashboard?
