database restore is destroying some special characters

  • I am trying to restore database from one host to another.
    Original host seems to run mysql 4.1.4 while new one runs 4.0.?

    When I create database dump and try to import it into new database I receive errors in CHARSET latin1 syntax (which I correct) but then restore is done and I am missing some of special characters we use in our country (I get a lot of question marks in place of special characters)

    where did I go wrong?

    both databases were created from wordpress 2.0.2 (first one with install.php, another one from fantastico)

    MySQL below 4.1 has trouble with UTF8. Ask your new host to update his MySQL. We’re currently even way past 4.1!
