database table size changes migrating from localhost to webhost

  • Hi, i’m using Jason bobich’s tutorial to move my wordpress website. But in my case it doesn’t work. The website comes with a blank screen only.
    The SQL-file size is 1,7mb this shouldn’t be a problem as 2,048kb is max for import with phpMyAdmin.
    The export and import seems to be successful. But when I compare ‘WP_Option table’, the two are different in size. The table in my local database says it is 2,5 mb, the one at the webhoster 1,5mb.

    Could this maximum size on import be the problem?
    Why such a small maximum size for import anyway?

    Any advise, help or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

  • I’d suggest you scrap the imported site and try again by following the instructions in Moving_WordPress. The tutorial you used is missing at least one critical step – carrying out a search & replace that will work with serialized arrays. The Codex page I’ve referred you to above includes links to specialised tools that you can use for this.
