    Hi Katie
Since updating to 7.1, the above listings no longer work for me; all seem to be listed in the order that I added the records. Can you please advise if I should be doing something different
    Many thanks

If you add a order attribute, such as order=”desc” (or asc depending on your preference), does that clear it up?

    No change I’m afraid

What if you change it to title=”year”? (Trying to pinpoint the issue since I can’t replicate on my end.)

@paviland Don’t offer anyone admin access, anyone who accepts that gets into real trouble here and I’ve archived your offer. That’s going too far and is never safe.

Had the author asked for that or accepted (they did not, I am just explaining) then this is what they would get their account flagged and this reply.

I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials. I have flagged your account temporarily. That just means that your post will need to be approved and @ notifications from you will not work.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us asking you to repeatedly stop before escalating up to the plugins team.

    Ooopss! Understood. Sorry about that

    (@kseaborn)

Oh, I didn’t know about this. @paviland Can you provide the shortcode on your website? I hope I can somehow replicate it on my end with more details.

    (@paviland)

    No Problem.

This is what I am using:
    By Date
    [zotpress style=”harvard1″ sortby=”date” order=”desc” title=”year” target=”new” download=”no” cite=”no”]

    By Author
    [zotpressLib userid=”1902014″ style=”harvard1″ sortby=”author” target=”new”]

I see what is happening now but different for different browsers.

In FireFox, they starting to slowly reappear once more in the correct date order but …. the year dates for each years collection of publications no longer shows as it never goes displaying beyond 2002 and shows the cogwheel. Author Order shows nothing except the cogwheel.

In Edge, these year dates do reappear … but some 10 seconds after the full list shows. All is OK again for the Author Order.

    All very strange

Having read about the Caching issue in a subsequent post, I have now refreshed the Date Order display several times in FireFox and the list is now complete and year dates now appear, allbeit some 10 or more seconds after the initial listing and which is the same with MS Edge : o) Is still slower though than the previous version.

Author Order still does not work in FireFox though does in MS Edge. Can confirm that everything also works in Safari but still the date timelag

@paviland I’ve checked on your end and mine, but I can’t replicate with my library (Firefox is working fine for me). I do see that there’s oddities on your end. With the (new?) forum rules, I’m not sure what to do at this point. @jdembowski Normally I would move the discussion off the forums to email, to privately and securely set me up with API access to resolve such special cases (of which there are many with the API that this WP plugin uses), but I see from the URL in your post that there might be a rule against this. Can you advise?

    (@paviland)

Hi Katie, just to say that Firefox now works fine for the Author Order. Am a bit confused by it all. Still a 10-15 second time lag before the Date Order date headers are displayed for me so that is the only thing left to resolve. Lets see what @jdembowski says. Thank you for your patience

It’s easy: @kseaborn If you cannot get the information through legitimate means then you’re going to have to walk away from this topic with “I’m sorry, I ran out of ways to help you.”

Do not log into a user’s site. This is not hard.

Katie, you are not a company here. You’re a volunteer. That rule is in place not to just protect @paviland but yourself as well.

Please take this very seriously. There are limits to volunteer support and crossing the line could have consequences here.

    (@kseaborn)

@jdembowski Please know that I’m taking this very, very seriously and am 100% on board with carrying out support in a safe and secure way. What I’d like to understand is what the legitimate means are and aren’t. To clarify, I don’t want to log into a user’s site — instead, read access to the third party API that this plugin is founded on (namely, Zotero; no connection with WP, and also no need for write access or admin access, etc.). For this, I suppose I have two intertwined questions: (a) about asking users for such third party read access credentials here on the WP forums, and, if allowed, then (b) how users can privately send me these (since, although read-only, there may be privacy issues about the content). If this is not the right way to ask, please point me to who I should speak with or where I should go.

@paviland That’s good news. Other users have been reporting what appears to be a caching issue that resolves itself over time. I’m also aware of the delay, and currently working on how to speed things up.

    Hi Katie

Just an update since updating to 7.1.1.

MS Edge: Author Order and Date Order both work fine; Date Order date headers are displayed within 3 seconds so that is good

FireFox: Author Order and Date Order also both work fine but Date Order date headers are never displayed.

I use the code elsewhere and if you look at the Bibliography tab on this page in Firefox
    https://www.gowerbonecaves.org.uk/gazetteer/cave-records/bacon-hole-pennard/

it displays in Author Order, but if you view the same in MS Edge, it shows it in Date Order.

Hope this helps get a bit further with this. Many thanks

Hi! I’m actually developing in FireFox. Can you give me the shortcode on the Bibliography tab on that page?

    Here you go:
    [zotpress style=”harvard1″ sortby=”author” sort=”DSC” title=”yes” tags=’Bacon Hole’ target=”new”]
