I am not new to installing and setting up multisite and i have been known to get domain mapping working before.

I moved to a new host and did a fresh 3.1 install with WP files downloard yesterday and install went fine. I added the multisite flag, ran the install. Copied the new lines to the config and htaccess files.

Logged out to access the network admin and I get a db connection error. I thought it might be the new host, as i moved from a whm/cpanel environment to server grid (media temple.)

However, I got the same error form a fresh 3.1 install in my old cpanel/hosting site…db connection error.

So I run the db repair on both installs and the reported that the site_1 tables were missing and everything else was fine.

That makes more scene, now…so the questions is shouldn’t the multisite install create these new tables and if so why are they not being created? Assuming that is the source of the problem I am having at both hosts with fresh 3.1 multisite installs.

No. The wp_1 tables are NOT needed (I think the repair tool is wrong, personally, but I’ve not looked into it). They WERE needed for wpmu, but do NOT exist on WP MultiSite.

Thanks, any idea why I am receiving a Database Connection Error only after I logout of a single site install to activate the multisite version?

It’s happening at two different hosting with a fresh install and the current 3.1 build that was downloaded just yesterday.

Multisaite was set to use sub-directories.

This problem has happened repeatedly, turning on the network breaks the db.

I can get 3.0 to run on both hosts in network mode.

    That is … weird.

Okay, I just downloaded and installed WordPress on my test site, and turned on MultiSite. No issues. So the download’s still good! Whew!

Check your database. Did it create these tables:
    wp_blogs
    wp_blog_versions
    wp_registration_log
    wp_signups
    wp_site
    wp_sitemeta

That’s real good news about the build.

Yes all the tables listed above were created.

I am going to kill both installs, download again and try to install once more at both hosts and get back to you.

Is there any new changes to the install of multisite 3.1 versus 3.0?

    ok figured it out.

it was caused by a rewrite over my .htaccess file and I did not catch it.

Plus and perhaps mostly due to me not noticing that when I added to the config file I did not paste over the allow multisiite flag.

Thanks for checking and helping out.
