• tags vs key words is a mystery to me, John from HeadSpace2 thinks key words are useless and combines them with tags.

I wish there is a place that would explain it with simple specific examples.

For example if a post is about a specific food recipe, do I match the tags to the name of title of the post or the contents or both etc.. Do you know of a site that would explain this concept in specific details, there is tons of generalized and abstract information out there, I am looking for specifics with examples. I only learn with examples (kinda slow)LOL

Let us say I have a recipe named Hummus https://www.recipetrezor.com/hummus-recipe , I named the post (hummus recipe); Hummus is made out of chick peas, tahini, garlic, lemon, olive oil etc… what would be the best way to tag such a post? Do I create tags to match the post title, the type of food i.e. middle eastern (which is already categorized in category), the ingredients, the anticipated search phrase that might be used in google search, etc…

Could someone please de-code this mystery to me.

    Thank you so much,

    any hint would help!!! anybody!!!

the difference between keywords and tags is that some time ago keywords used to be used by browsers for indexing the content. as people abused these, keywords do not influence SEO much nowdays apart from when the whole page is done in Flash and there is no alternative text on the page.

tags are used to correlate and indicate relevancy of the content to the users, they offer [should offer] a quick way of determining whether the blog article is relevant to the viewer but they also can be used to group cross reference other articles on your site or other websites such as technorati use them to group and list other blog posts / content that is using the same tags.

    essentially:
keywords are for browsers and are put in the HEAD
tags are for people and are put in the BODY

    aquanelle,

I appreciate your effort to answer my question but that is also a general answer that I have been hearing and seeing all over the forums and across the web.

It did not answer my specific questions for a specific case I have in my post. I am “kinda slow” and need specific examples that are applied to a real life situation like the case I presented in my post above what would be the tags I should create for SEO.

    Thank you
