deactivate plugins for MU

Hi,
Simple question.

I’d like to deactivate plugins for different sites within a multisite…I think what I should do is Network deactivate and then activate the plugins in the individual sites that I need. But some of the plugins aren’t even listed in the individual sites – they’re only listed in the network plugn list…mmmm???

Any suggestions?
