I deactivated the plugin Really simple SSL because I was getting a JSON error while adding the sidebar menu. Turns out that it broke all the links to my multisite, all media items are gives 404 errors… Reactivated the plugin, resaved the permalinks, cleared the theme cache, nothing works. Even when I add a new page, it gives the same 404 messages on all its media items.

Re-saving the permalinks usually resolves 404 issues. Is the 404 from WordPress or from the server? A WordPress 404 is a page in the theme style.

Are you using a cdn of some kind?

If you have deactivated, then activated the plugin again, the plugin configuration is back to the original see setup.

Hi Rogier. Thanks for the reply. It gives this error in the console “Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 ()” for each picture used in the site. I am not using a CDN. I tried to add again the pictures, but it again goes to the same position.

The setting should have gone back to the original, and I rechecked it. but no luck.

What is the url of such an image?

Are there any redirects active on this url if you follow the redirect chain?

You can check, viapromo.co.uk, or via.lt

And no there is no redirects.

    Hi @hameedi,

could you check if any of the following solutions resolves the issue: https://really-simple-ssl.com/404-pages-wordpress-site-migrating-ssl/?

Hi Mark. I checked these steps, still I have the issue. I deactivated Jetpack as well… One point is that I am using a multisite- the main site is fine- everything loads, but other sites have issue. I just noticed something unusual, while using chrome and Mozilla browsers, I get the 404 errors, but when I open the site on safari everything loads normally.

    Hi @hameedi,

strange, could you verify the files the images link to exists in your /wp-content/uploads/ folder?

    (@hameedi)

I just checked that… The 2022 folder does not even exists for the domains having this issue. The hosting provider says everything is fine on their side.

    Hi @hameedi,

what is the correct URL for these images? It could be the permalinks have accidentally changed and the image URL’s are therefore incorrect.

I am amazed how the uploads folder totally disappeared for this year for this site. You can check personally viapromo.co.uk and the links to the pictures. I restored an old version of the site from a month ago, but the issue still persists, I tried to completely reinstall the wordpress on that site, and deleted all files in the public html folder, but surprisingly, the site still loads… cleared the cache using WP smart cache plugin and still the system is like that…

Strange, seems like it’s either an issue with the permalinks or with your webserver. Do the images exists in a different folder than /uploads/2022?
