• I had someone who knew what they were doing set up W3 Total Cache to work on my site, which uses a membership plug-in with specific needs and the Headway theme. I have been advised in no uncertain terms that before I do any work in Headway, I need to clear the cache(s) and turn off the plug-in. I suspect, based on what I’ve seen written here, that deactivating the plug-in would mean I’d lose my settings.

    Can someone please confirm that the best way to proceed (when I need to make design changes to my site in Headway) involves the following sequence of steps:

    – In W3 general settings, download/export configuration file, save for later;
    – In W3, clear caches;
    – in Plug-in manager; deactivate W3;
    – make changes;
    – in Plug-in manager; reactivate W3;
    – in W3 under general settings, upload configuration file saved in the first step; save settings.

    So will this keep me from losing my settings? Have I missed anything? Is there something else I should/could do in this process?

    Thanks for any guidance.

    Merry

  • Deactivating the plugin will not delete your settings if you were to remove the plugin and delete the w3tc config folder/file then your settings would be lost.

    But if you are really worried about losing your settings I would use the download/export the settings.
