Suddenly, without making any changes on my part, all of the galleries I had placed into posts using this shortcode:

    [ngg_images gallery_ids="5" display_type="photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails"]

    Now appear with this error:

This is the default gallery type template, located in:
    /home/joafer21/douroprofundo.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_gallery_display/templates/index.php.

If you’re seeing this, it’s because the gallery type you selected has not provided a template of it’s own.

They were working just fine yesterday, now they’re all showing this error, no matter which Gallery it is linking too.

    Example here.

Okay. Thanks! I have a different type of gallery, so the text (and “”) are different. I’ll try again though.

What should I do to apply this “solution” to 844 galleries? :-/

It might just be the free version. I re-installed both the basic and pro version, and now I have it working. Just not exactly right, but it’s working.

Did you check your gallery settings? That’s where you can select a template. That might help to re-save your template selection.

I couldn’t get mine to save anything until I re-installed. Even now it won’t save some settings unless I use Safari instead of Chrome (on my mac).

I just updated my Nextgen Plus to latest version and still won’t work.

Yes, I updated mine and had these problems. I had to delete and re-install them both from a new download of the plugin, and then it started working. Might just be my issue, but it’s what worked for me.

Deleted and reinstalled: won’t work for me, either ??

I emailed the support team but I’ll have to wait for their answer. So far, removing quotes is the only workaround for me.

If removing quotes has not helped restore galleries/albums, check the Gallery settings in admin – the latest update appears to have cleared the settings!

@photocrati So is this a long term solution or will the plugin/wordpress be updated again and we’ll have to go back and change all of our short codes again?

All – we are aware of the issue that is now happening as a result of the 4.0.1 auto-update, and the development team are working on a solution.

We appreciate your patience as we work through the issue and come up with a fix.

    Thanks,

All – Thank you for your patience. We’ve completed an update to NextGEN Gallery, which is version 2.0.66.31 – this update contains the fix for the gallery template error caused by the 4.0.1 update, and does not require you adjust your shortcode structure or remove quotes in any way.

The upload is available now, and can be accessed through your Dashboard or via download from the repository: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nextgen-gallery/

    Thanks,

Hey all – just wanted to confirm / follow up on @photocrati.

It looks like the WordPress 4.0.1 release yesterday broke some NextGEN shortcodes. We just pushed 2.0.66.31 to resolve the issue. You don’t need to adjust your shortcodes.

If anyone updates and still has an issue, please let us know. Thanks! (Erick)

I just updated and still have an issue. I have the pro version as well. The album loads, and I can then select a gallery, but then it fails to load individual photos.

this is making me look really bad in front of my bewildered client. The only issue his site ever has is with the next gen photogallery.

All galleries are fine after the update! Thank you very much for the quick fix!

@photocrati: Was the previous updated not tested?

@dadaen – the issue was caused by a change in the (somewhat sudden) WordPress 4.0.1 update, not anything on NextGEN’s side.
