Suddenly, without making any changes on my part, all of the galleries I had placed into posts using this shortcode:

    [ngg_images gallery_ids="5" display_type="photocrati-nextgen_basic_thumbnails"]

    Now appear with this error:

This is the default gallery type template, located in:
    /home/joafer21/douroprofundo.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_gallery_display/templates/index.php.

If you’re seeing this, it’s because the gallery type you selected has not provided a template of it’s own.

They were working just fine yesterday, now they’re all showing this error, no matter which Gallery it is linking too.

    Example here.

  • after updating both the plugin and then doing the photocrati updates in the dashboard menu, things seem to be working.

unfortunately, somewhere during the process, it looks like several dozen galleries fell out of the album. I can put them back in but it’s odd.

    @edanzer: Ok, thank you.

The main point is that every thing works fine ??

@mellowvision – We prefer to keep each thread focused on its own issue rather than mix them up. Otherwise topics get all jumbled, and hard to follow for other users.

Could we ask you either to start a new thread or, since you’re a Pro member, to submit a support ticket if you’re still having issues? The issues you were having with your albums are definitely unusual. Sounds like they’re resolved, but if not, we’d be happy to help. You’ll get the fastest and most complete response via Pro support ticket. Thanks! (Erick)

    Working for me too!

    Thanks @photocrati.

I was about to touch the DB, thank god I didn’t have time ??

BTW, galleries seem to be working now WITH and WITHOUT the quotes. Is that true o those galleries I modified are working only because they are cached?

@dadaeen: Great to hear! Thanks for taking the time to confirm!

@denaflows – awesome, thanks for letting us know.

You should be fine either way, with or without quotes, though quotes are preferable as they follow the API.

Heart in the old mouth stuff when noticed this template error this morning, but the update seems to have solved things.

It’s hard hard work with these updates just pushed out by wordpress – sure they are for the best but for developers, it’s got to be a nightmare and maybe we should be a bit more grateful when using these free plugins.

So thank you for dealing with this so quickly at nextgen.

WordPress 4.0.1 Exposes Bad Development Practices Used in Some Plugins

    https://wptavern.com/wordpress-4-0-1-exposes-bad-development-practices-used-in-some-plugins

    :-/

@denflows: Yup, we saw that. I think that’s very incomplete picture that notably oversimplifies the choices that face plugin developers in a complicated WordPress landscape where you control very little about the environment in which your plugin is running.

In our case, we *were* using the shortcode API as intended. But there were a lot of conflicts with plugins who weren’t. So we adjusted our implementation to resolve those conflicts. The resulting implementation worked well with WP and avoided conflicts until WordPress 4.0.1 was released.

I’m sure someone out there would say: well, you should just do things the right way, and if there are issues with other plugins, that’s their problem. But anyone who’s supported a popular theme or plugin know the “it’s their problem” approach doesn’t go over well. Users don’t care where problems originate, they just want them solved. Which I understand.

So I’m confident we made the best decision for our user base as whole with the way we were doing it, and we’ve now just adjusted again to accommodate the new circumstances.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

    Thanks @edanzer!

ok now this error is persisting
I have wordpress 4.0 I didn’t upgrade to 4.0.1 just so there will be no adverse impact.
The next gen plugin is latest – this did not fix the issue

I am creating a slideshow gallery with the [show thumbnails] option.. But in the thumbnails view if I go to next page, I still get this
    Default Gallery Type Template…
    Default Gallery Type Template

I have the latest plugin Version 2.0.66.33 and WordPress 4.0.1.

My Gallery has two pages of thumbnails and clicking the previous and next buttons switches between the pages as expected until you click on ‘Show as Slideshow’ then go back to the thumbnails and click to show the other page, this throws up the template error.

    Hi,

I have the latest plugin Version 2.0.66.33 and WordPress 4.0.1.

All the pages that have a gallery don′t show. Its a blanck page. When I deleted the gallery reference, this pages are ok.

I have recreated all the galleries again, but by including them in the pages stop working. What can I do???
