• Hi,

I just installed wordpress on a new domain. I haven’t changed anything, added one post, or installed any plugins. Now what I have found is that the site is very slow to load. It takes 10 seconds or more to see the index page appear. On my blogs running 2.7, the pages load in 3 seconds or less. What gives? Is there a solution to the slow load times or is this just a flaw that must be endured?

    Ren

  • WordPress 2.8 is no slower than 2.7, so there must be another reason why this particular blog is running so slowly. Are your 2.7 sites on the same server?

Yes, they are all on the same server. Also, I would have to disagree. WordPress 2.8 is much slower. I have found this to be so and I have found several people online who mention the same problem.

It’s no different for me either..

Ren if you know how to or have a local installation, try it out there, and see if performance differs..

I can’t say i notice a difference on the old pentium laptop i’m running my local install on. It’s only me viewing the pages, but they load as fast as they always have (defragmentation aside).. if it was a WordPress problem i’d surely have noticed right?..

The admin seems a little more sluggish in some areas, but on the front end it seems the same (but then i’m old and slow, so maybe i just can’t see a difference, lol)…

I don’t have a local installation, so I can’t test the speed of that. As I said, this isn’t just me.

    2.8 loading slow. Times out.

Well, I have just discovered something interesting. I typically use FireFox, so I thought that I would give IE a try. One of the sites using 2.8 loaded very fast. The other took a second or two or three, but the wait wasn’t too bad. So, why doesn’t 2.8 play nice with FireFox 3?

Because Firehog is a RAM-eating you-know-what! Sometimes when you quit it, it doesn’t release all Windows’ resources so you’ve got this big lag. Personally, I use Opera for general surfing and just use Firefox when I need the web dev tools. ??

Strange, that’s what i use on all the PCs here…

Firefox 3.5.2, but yes i’ll agree IE is a little more responsive for me also..

Do you have any extension installed?

Tried a new profile in firefox? (simply to see if it helps). New profiles load without extensions (easy way to test without them).

@jonimueller – If FireFox is so terrible, then why doesn’t this problem occur with any previous installation of WordPress? It is only a problem with 2.8.

@ t31os_ – I have four add-ons with FireFox, so it’s not like I have a ton. Could you please tell me how to try FireFox with a new profile? I would be interested in trying that.

    Should have you covered.. ??
