Default language can't be chosen

I just wrote a post about this problem. Within the post, you will find the code for a plugin which just fixes this problem and the one of the duplicated hreflang-tags by qtranslate-slug.

Just a side note, about the duplicated hreflang tags, I noticed that there’s still:
<link hreflang="it" href="https://example.com/it/" rel="alternate" />
where Italian is my main language.

Shouldn’t it be:
<link hreflang="it" href="https://example.com/" rel="alternate" />
in this case?

Yes and no…

While the “prefix-less” version of the url works for switching under the discussed circumstandings with the plugin, the version WITH prefix is still the correct one to switch languages in qtranslate-x.

So both versions would be correct, but i prefer using the one that is intended by the plugin i’m using as long as it doesn’t make problems ^^

don’t think so…

For SEO, the important thing is the canonical tag, which is set correctly.

Additional, the version with prefix does get you correctly to the language specified (even if it redirects you). So there should be no problems ^^

Can I ask why a fix for this has not yet been considered? Is it because slugs will eventually work its way into future releases?

hi everyone, we’ve just released a new Qtranslate-slug. it fixes the incompatibility with qtx and removes its extra hreflang ( as before these latests qtranslate-x updates).

Sorry for resuming this topic, I noticed that with qTranslate-X 3.4.6 and qTranslate slug 1.1.17 there’s still the problem of duplicate <link hreflang="it" ... rel="alternate" />
