default login form; gender field doesn’t store when set to ‘female’

Hello,
When registering a new user with the default registration form I use the meta key gender, with the edit choices set to ‘Male’ and ‘Female’. When a female user registers, the default profile form doesn’t seem to display the value ‘Female’, whilst it works fine for a male user.
