• Under this setting: Relevanssi > Searching > Deafault Order, I have Post Date selected, but the posts are not showing by post date order. The order is all over the place, showing a post from 2019, then from 2006, then 2021…

    Please advise.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Is something else perhaps overriding the order? If you run the search with the Relevanssi admin search (Dashboard > Admin search), does that have the same order? You can see the weights there, are the posts ordered by the weight descending?

If you add &orderby=post_date to the end of the search results page URL, does that fix the order?

Running it in the Admin search appears to show the correct order of posts.

Adding &orderby=post_date to the end of the search results page URL does not fix the order.

    Please advise.

    Thanks!

Can I see the site? Which theme are you using? Looks like the search may not be powered by Relevanssi in the first place.

Is there a different way I can send you the URL privately?

The search form is being displayed using the Relevanssi shortcode: [searchform]

Also, the theme in use is Enfold, with child theme active and some custom work done there.

As far as I can tell, Enfold actually has built-in Relevanssi compatibility in it, so that should not be a problem.

Do the search results otherwise match the results in the Relevanssi admin search? If you try a two-word search with the AND operator, then switch to the OR operator, do the results change, for example?

    Hello, Mikko.

Please see my response to your inquiries below in bold.

Do the search results otherwise match the results in the Relevanssi admin search?
They appear to match. The front end search shows 63 reults and the Relevanssi admin search also shows 63 results. I did a spot check and they appear to be the same results, just not in the correct order on the site front end.

If you try a two-word search with the AND operator, then switch to the OR operator, do the results change, for example?
I had the default operator set as AND, already (with “disable the OR fallback” checked). First, I tried unchecking that box for “disable the OR fallback” and tested – same results in same order. Then I changed the default operator to OR and tested – same results again in same order.

I would be happy to share the URL with you to check it out if I can send it privately. Is there a way to do that?

    Thank you!!

Hmm, so your first test suggests the search is powered by Relevanssi, and the second test suggests it isn’t.

The forum rules say “Do not post email addresses, ask others to post their email or solicit contacting people off of the forums.” So unfortunately if it’s something that cannot be shared on the forums, I can’t help with it.

I do provide private support for Relevanssi Premium customers.

I don’t understand your response: “Hmm, so your first test suggests the search is powered by Relevanssi, and the second test suggests it isn’t.”

    Thanks!

If the Relevanssi admin search results match the front end search results that suggests the front end search is using Relevanssi. However, if the front end results don’t change when you change Relevanssi settings that’s not a good sign. If you have a two-word search, it should return more results when the search is set to OR and fewer results when the search is set to AND.
