Default role is not applying in subsites

Hi,
I have a multisite installation 3.5.1 version. In my main site I have install Buddypress 1.6.4.
When I’m creating a new sub-site like subsite1.mainsite.com I can’t adding default role on the subsite. I’m getting this error:
The website encountered an error while retrieving https://www.mainsite.com/wp-admin/network/settings.php. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.
HTTP Error 500 (Internal Server Error): An unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request.Any ideas?
