• I am receiving this message on the Plugins>Installed Plugins page: “W3 Total Cache: Default settings are in use. The configuration file could not be read or doesn’t exist. Please [save the settings] to create the file.”

When I click [save the settings], I get a page that says: “Are you sure you want to do this? [Please try again.]”

When I click [Please try again.], I’m taken back to the Installed Plugins page. Endless circle.

I haven’t changed anything. Have had the plugin installed, but today am getting this message. I deactivated, deleted, installed and activated. Getting the same message.

ahh thanks for the info. I figured it has worked fine before (no log issue). Curious if u have access to ftp or file manager do u see the following files being written and more importantly when u change a setting and save the settings do the file times change?

    /wp-content/w3tc-config/master.php
    /wp-content/w3tc-config/master-admin.php
    /wp-content/cache/config/master.php

What is the chmod permissions on them? 644?

I do have access to file manager on my host. I have none of the files.

thanks for the info. Ok so none of those files exist. Are these directories being made at least?

    /wp-content/w3tc-config
    /wp-content/cache

    – Or are both of these empty directory names missing too?
    – If they exist what is the permission settings on these directories? 755?
    – If they dont exist try making them within your file manager. Can they be created?
    – Under w3tc’s Performance > Dashboard > compatibility check is there anything unusual e.g. your /wp-content directory that it is using is the correct location?
