    Hi there,

Previously when I created an event using QEM, Sidebar: Left Column and Sidebar: Right Column would be empty, that is, nothing specified. So, I would choose a custom sidebar for the left column and leave the right column untouched. This resulted in a post with a left sidebar, and the post occupied the rest of the screen, as here: https://religion.utoronto.ca/event/numata-2014-11-06/.

Now, when I do the same thing, the post now displays the theme default right sidebar as well, so my event post is squished into the centre column: https://religion.utoronto.ca/event/student-colloquium-2014-09-25/.

The theme has not been updated, but QEM has, so I am figuring that perhaps a change within QEM is causing this? Is there a workaround you’re aware of that I could use to force the QEM event to only use the specified left column sidebar and have the event details occupy the rest of the space?

    Thank you!

  • If the right sidebar has content this is a theme feature. The plugin just displays events in your default theme template. so not really sure what to advise.

This page seems to be OK: https://religion.utoronto.ca/event/numata-2014-09-18/

Yes, the link you cite is okay. In fact, in the events that are currently listed, the only one that was created recently is the problematic one with the right sidebar showing. I did all the others in a oner a while back.

The only thing that has changed is that QEM has been updated – hence my question to you! It sounds like you are saying that, in fact, it was working in an unexpected way before and is only now working as you would expect. Is that what you mean?

I’m mystified. While I can see that this should be nothing to do with QEM, the fact is that it has only changed when QEM changed. Oh well, I guess I am stuck. Thanks for taking a look, though.

    I’m mystified as well!

Sidebars are a theme features. All the plugin does is create a custom-post-type and display it in the default post template. There was a bug in the plugin which affected wordpress queries but that wouldn’t force your theme to add a column to the right. When you create events do you have a theme option to select page layouts?

I only have the option to select page layouts for regular posts. For QEM posts, which are custom posts, the option does not appear.

I have taken this up with the theme publisher (WPZoom, Academic Pro theme) to see what they have to say. So far, they have said this would require customization not covered by their support but that there might be a workaround to hide the right sidebar and make the content area wider. At their request I have sent a link to the problematic layout, and am waiting to hear back.

<embarrassed> Just before I got a response from the theme publisher, I realized that, in fact, the choice of layout options had been available all along. The section was not expanded and I simply didn’t see it – a selective blindess that has wasted much time and for which I don’t have any real explanation. Selective stupidity, perhaps.

Anyway, all is good. Sorry for bothering you.

No need to be embarrassed. I’m pleased it’s all been sorted.
