Default title tag not working when using custom metadescription

Hi, great plugin. Thanks! Right now I have my title tag rewriter defaults set to {post} | {blog} for my blog posts. For each post I write a custom meta description but leave the title blank (in the SEO section of the post editor – the WP post title is filled in of course). Why isn’t the default title tag rewriter not working when I use the custom meta description? If I write my own description, do I also have to fill in the title tag? Yoast SEO has both fields functioning independently, but this plugin seems to have both working together. How can I fix? Thanks.
