• Finally got around to re-installing the sidebar widget since the update.

I have noticed that the border is non-existent even though it appears in the preview unless you choose the default dark option. I’m using the default widget with the light gray gradient background. While I don’t won’t a super dark border, it would still be nice to have one slightly darker than the gradient background to fall inline with the rest of my site. I’m guessing this is likely just a simple CSS code I need to add.

Also, I figured out that by editing some of the longer testimonials down, I can reduce the spacing beneath the slideshow but it still is a bit much. I’m thinking it has extra padding for the form which I don’t use because no one on my site ever used it in the past. For my site, most folks prefer to leave a comment under a post or when they send me a donation. Is there a way to reduce the padding beneath the slideshow widget that still anticipates the longest length?

Finally, when you initially go to my site, the slideshow appears to be paused for the duration of the timer (I have it set to 5). Is there a way to start it immediately with the timer starting after the first testimonial has loaded?

I’m going to be playing around with a new theme today so my site will be unavailable but I’m hoping the explanation I’m providing is comprehensive enough. Thanks for all you do!

    Hey kjam,

    [1] border

The default widget template has no borders. If by “preview” you mean the Background section in the View editor, that border is only there to help pick a background color; it is not part of any template.

So, when your site is live, I’ll be glad to provide some custom CSS for a border.

    [2] space below slideshow

The slideshow has to set the height of the container to match the tallest element, the longest testimonial. Otherwise, whatever is below that widget will move up and down with each slide and it may get jumpy as the height is in flux during the fade transition. It’s very distracting.

In some themes, if the slideshow is the last widget in the sidebar, and the page content is short, the top of the footer sits underneath the bottom of the sidebar so the entire footer moves up and down if the slideshow height is not set.

The slideshow is meant for excerpts or trimmed content of about the same length. I’m standing my ground on this one. ??

    [3] paused

If I understand correctly, this sounds like your site has a lot of Javascript loading and/or a lot of images in a slider.

I can go into the technical details if you want. But long story short, my plugin waits until the page is fully loaded (all images, scripts, iframes, etc.) before starting the slideshow. I think this is the delay you’re talking about. This is a recent change that has solved a lot of odd behavior.

My casual observation is that for the majority of sites, the delay is negligible so the tradeoff is acceptable.

Again, once your site is live, I’ll be glad to take a look and see if anything can be done.

WOW Chris, wasn’t expecting you to be working on the weekend LOL.

Actually, my site is still live as I’m performing a backup at the moment.

CSS code for the border would be great.

As for the height adjustment, that’s fine. Because of the way I setup the widget, I went back and edited down several of the larger testimonials manually, which reduced a great deal of space at the bottom, so I can live with that.

As for the delay when loading, I had to turn off minify in my cache plugin as it wasn’t playing nice with my site. For the foreseeable future, that’s out my control.

    Thanks!

    I work every day ??

I didn’t bookmark your site from the last time we worked on it. Please post a link or contact me at wpmission.com when you’re ready.
