Delete categories

  • I currently have 15+ categories specified on my blog.

    I want to reduce the number and also rename/create new ones.

    Is it just as simple as deleting the categories?

    What potential problems could this have?

    Will old posts still show up if I give them a new category and remove the original ones?

  • a) whenever you delete a category – its posts will go to the default category, if you don’t do anything else to prevent this
    b) if you previously re-assing your posts to different categories, you can delete the “empty” categories

    So it would be best to assign the posts to the new categories and then delete the old ones.

    Any idea how deleting categories will affect google search rankings etc.
