delete individual products using import

But how do I just delete a small number of products via import without reimporting all the products I want to keep?

You could set up an import file with a column that contains a way to match the products (unique SKUs, IDs, or unique custom field values), and a column with the post status “trash”, then set up an “Existing Items” import to update those products and place them in the trash.
