    Hello.

I had the WEBP Uploads option enabled, but as I’m using Jetpack Photon, this is unnecessary.

I disabled the option, but I already have many images on both versions, and they take up storage space.

Is there a way to safely delete one of the versions? (preferably the JPEG). I assume deleting directly from the filesystem can cause issues (unless the versions are detached first).

    Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out @asafm7. You’re correct to assume that deleting the files from your filesystem directly over FTP or your hosting control panels file manager page isn’t ideal.

Unfortunately there is no feature within the plugin to remove one version of all existing files, for images that do have both a WebP and JPEG version available. Luckily there are third party plugins that can be used to bulk process images in full.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Thanks James.

It feels like a rather specific action. Do you know of a plugin that has this functionality?

    How does it call?

    Restoring original image?

    Detaching original image?

    Thanks again.

Unfortunately I don’t know of any specific plugins, however, you can perform a search on the plugin directory. Before testing out on your live site you can use a demo TasteWP or InstaWP site.

Note also that if you deactivate the Performance Lab plugin, your images will revert to using the JPEG versions, at which point it’s safe to revisit and possible remove your WebP image variation.

There is also an existing GitHub issue in relation to replacing existing images, which you may wish to keep an eye on.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
