• My web site is https://appletechtalk.com running 4.5.2. It is a product review site and as such, almost all of my posts have multiple pictures embedded in them.. As a result, my Media library has gotten pretty big.

For all of the files I upload I have the Link To: set to None. In addition to a full backup of my site, I keep a copy of my post text and all of the media files stored on a local drive and backed up.

My question is, some of these media files are very old (almost a year) and probably won’t ever be used again as they are very post/product specific. Can I delete the files from the Media Library to shrink the library size, without impacting the posts those assets are used in? Or, if I delete those source files, will they disappear from the posts as well?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,

    David

  • yes ! after deleting it will disapper from post or give img error.

It’s never a good idea to delete images or other media files as seeing “broken” image/media on an HTML page is really bad user experience. For example: would you trust a site you found from a search engine if there is even one [missing image] on it? ??

At the same time, if you are absolutely sure the images are not used in any post or page on your site, you can consider deleting them. Think there were plugins that can verify that.
