• I’m trying to move to an updated version of a third party theme that works on the genesis framework. I know you can’t delete an active theme, but there is no longer a delete button underneath any of the the 2 other themes I have installed. Developer said current version must be deleted before upgrade is installed so I added the WP 2017 to use as the default while I customize new theme, but am not willing to activate it when I see no option to delete current theme. TIA for the help!

  • If you can’t locate the delete button, you can delete the theme via FTP then just visit the themes page.

You cannot delete an active theme (or its parent, if it’s a child theme). Activate 2017, do what you need to do with the other theme(s), then re-activate what you need.

Understand about not having the ability to delete an active theme, but I’m being told that I can’t just activate and install update. Even if I activate 2017 I need to delete the old version of this theme and there is no longer a delete button available for any of the themes I have on my Appearance page. When/why did the delete button disappear?

I would prefer not to go the FTP route unless it is the only option.

Click the non-active theme or child theme to expand it. You should then see the link to delete the theme.

The delete links are not shown when the themes are listed as a grid.

    Thank you so much!

Even when I click on “Theme Details” the delete option is gone for me. I also don’t have the “add theme” option at the top of the page. I can only activate the themes that I have already installed.

There is only one user on this account (me), and it’s a full administrator account.

Here are screen shots of what I’m talking about
    No delete: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oja9yww0of07hpz/No%20Delete.JPEG?dl=0
    No add: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4p7n5xew6d37a4h/No%20Add.JPEG?dl=0

I’ve even create a new admin user and signed in there to see if there was some weird permissions issue that prevented me from doing it, but a fresh admin would work, but it doesn’t work still…
