• Hi,

I try to keep my blog and my server as clean as I can. When I delete a picture from a post, I delete it also in the library (option delete permanently).

I have discovered recently that this action doesn’t remove the webp files format an neither some “big” files with the suffix 1024×356.png …

Do you know a plugin that can help to delete all the files attached to an originale picture. Or do you know if this bug will be corrected in the next WordPress update?

    Thanks

  • Take a look at the Media Cleaner plugin. I recommend testing it on a staging site first or creating a backup before applying any changes on your live site.

    Thanks Lina for your message,

But I will not use this tool. The reason is because a lot my picture are attached to a specific plugin that manage tutorials and quizzes on my blog. In the library, all these pics are considered as ‘Unattached’. So with this plugin, around 500 pictures will be automatically deleted (not good).

I’m just surprised that WordPress doesn’t delete all files with the same filename with an entry in the database. With an entry like ThisIsMyPics.png, I expect to delete
    – ThisIsMyPics.png
    – ThisIsMyPics.webp
    – ThisIsMyPics.png-150×150.png
    – ThisIsMyPics.png-150×150.webp
    – ThisIsMyPics.png-1024×900.png
    – ThisIsMyPics.png-1024×900.webp

Right now, none webp files are permanently deleted and the big files (>1024.png) are not deleted neither.

Hey @fred_konga , just to make sure — can you reproduce this behaviour on a clean WordPress installation? I wonder if this could be caused by any third-party plugins

You may be using a plugin that disables this feature. Disable the plugins one by one and delete your image for the test. *I think it might be a problem with a resize plugin or a cache plugin.
