I have been trying out your free version and may eventually end up going for the pro version sometime in the future. In searching out a solution to my quandary, all solutions only pertained to the pro version, hence my need to ask this question:

How can I delete the staging site that I created in the testing of the free version when it would seem that a ‘delete’ button only comes in the pro version?

    Hello @ibowden

first of all, you can delete the staging site by going to wp staging > sites. There you find a delete button to delete the staging site, see: https://take.ms/6WAFF

Now I have a few questions to you:

This is not the first time I am asked about this delete feature and I really wonder why this delete feature does not seem to be obvious enough. So I really appreciate it if you can help me here and can answer me the following questions so that I am able to improve the usability of the plugin:

    • Why do you think the delete button comes only in the pro version? This is nowhere mentioned, isn’t it?
    • How come that you missed the delete button. Is it too much hidden and not obvious enough?
    • What can I do to solve it, where do you expect the delete button to be?

Thank you so much and have a great weekend.
    René

I am adding to this thread since I have a similar problem. The problem is the staging site no longer shows up in the list of staging sites in the plugin, so I can’t just click delete. I can see the folder and database tables, but how do I reconnect them to the plugin so the site shows up in the list again?

Can I just delete the folder and database tables starting with wpstg0? I would prefer not to go that route if possible.

    Thanks

    Hi @pumpadmin,

I assume you do not see the staging site in the list of sites because you previously deleted wp staging including its settings.

Now you need to delete the folder and the database tables prefixed with wpstg_ manually.

Next time delete first the staging site. Then delete the plugin. This will work without any issues.

    Cheers
    René

Thank you for the quick response.

I actually did not delete the plugin, but I did migrate the entire site to another server. Could this be the reason?

Also, I can open the staging site in a browser, and it is fine. Is there a way to reconnect it to the plugin so I can delete it through the plugin?

I’m not seeing the button because there is no button! When I go to the source site, the staging website doesn’t appear (https://i.imgur.com/IorACfJ.png) even though it actually exists (https://i.imgur.com/98s3o64.png). If I try to recreate the staging site (https://i.imgur.com/tERFjvf.png) I get an error.
Please tell me how to just manually delete the staging site. I know I can go into my host’s panel and delete the directory (https://ianbowden.ca/staging/) but I know that I also will have to delete the database – and I don’t know how to do that.

You can delete them through phpmyadmin in your cpanel. Here is a link:

    https://wp-staging.com/docs/cleanup-and-delete-staging-sites/

You will delete the tables that begin with wpstg.

I am a little leery of doing it manually which is why I was asking how to link mine back up to the plugin and let the plugin do the dirty work, but it sounds like that may not be an option.

    Hi guys,

    > I actually did not delete the plugin, but I did migrate the entire site to another server. Could this be the reason?

If you did the migration manually you probably missed copying over the options that contain the staging sites. This is a row in the table wp_options and it’s called wpstg_existing_clones_beta see: https://take.ms/LakwQ

You can copy over that field with PHPMyAdmin to the production database table and the original staging site will be listed again. There is no other way to connect the staging site when that information is lost (At the moment)

So if you like to delete an unconnected staging site the answer of @pumpadmin is 100% correct.

Thank you Rene, that worked to copy the table row over from the old server.

While working another issue, I created a second staging site. Both staging sites work (I can browse to and manage them) but only the first one I created shows up in the WP Staging ‘Sites / Start’ page. So I only have the option to delete the first.

The delete action warns to make sure the tables set for deletion are correct and I believe they are not. phpMyAdmin shows I have 2 sets of tables prefixed with wpstg; wpstg0_* and wpstg1_* and the Delete action (for the first site created) wants to delete the wpstg1_* tables.

It also lists the file directory for deletion and this is correct.

I suspect if I use the delete feature I’ll lose the files for staging site #0 and the database for staging site #1 rendering them both useless and requiring manual clean up.

This also makes me wonder if, when I publish from staging to live, if the correct sources will be used.

    Please advise.

UPDATE: I logged out then back in and now neither staging site is listed on the ‘Sites / Start’ page so Delete is no longer an option. Neither is ‘Push Changes’ so I lack a way to publish from Staging.
