• Hi
While working in admin panel managed to get into the general settings to check the url as people are getting access to a site that is not live. It is being revised and has not launched yet.

I tried to remove the current URL (littleguild.org/WP/wp-admin) and in doing so refreshed and lost complete access to the admin panel and url. Keep getting a Internal Server Error.

    URL for wordpress is littleguild.org/WP/

Hosting company of no help as I am only the web designer. I do not understand how anyone can access as it is not live which is why I tried to change the URL in general settings. Ugh.

Any help is appreciated. I can access by FTP.
    Thanks.

    Minione

  • You can change those back using FTP access –

Tried changing the function.php with no luck. Keep getting an internal server error.

There is a child theme and the parent theme. Which functions.php do I edit? I have replaced the one that was edited back to its original state.

    THanks.

If you are using the functions.php file method here:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL#Edit_functions.php

You need to use the active theme’s function file to change those URL settings back to what they were – first step:

FTP to the site, and get a copy of the active theme’s functions.php file.

Sorry to be confused. When working in the admin panel the child theme is what is being used/active. The function.php file is much smaller than the function.php file in the original rescue theme.

We have also manipulated the child theme so further updates I assume can not be done to the child theme. Don’t want to overwrite the wrong file.

Again, many thanks. Wish your eyes could see what I see!

Just to be sure we’re talking about the same thing – the initial problem occurred when you changed the URL settings under Settings > General?

To change them back, yes, you have to use the ACTIVE theme’s functions file (or one of the other methods described in the page I linked above). So if you are using a child theme (assuming it’s set up like a typical child theme – https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Child_Themes ), yes, you would use the functions file in the child theme (if you don’t have one in the child theme, you can make one – see the child theme page).

A child theme isn’t generally updated – the point of using a child theme is to allow you to update the parent theme without losing the changes – as the changes are made in the child theme. But since you are using a commercial theme (they aren’t supported here) – you should ask the developers about any questions you have about this.

Okay, the main site has been restored (https://www.littleguild.org.org). My problem now is that I do not/cannot login to the WP-admin panel.

all I want to do is re-establish my login which I am not able to do.

You don’t have permission to access /WP/wp-admin/wp-login.php on this server.

Your URL above isn’t valid – but it looks like your WP site is here?

    https://littleguild.org/WP/

But not working correctly? Have you reviewed –

The problems still exist. The hosting company is in the process of looking at the problems. The current site is now loading and working for the most part with the exception of the home page link redirecting to the wrong place. I did not create the original site but appears no one did any maintenance, just file uploads as needed.

Access to the WP-admin panel is still in limbo, they were to be running a full scan and getting back to me. This has truly been a learning experience. Still can not log in or get access.
I still keep wondering why anyone would do this to a charity non- profit site.

I will be back with further questions, everything I have tried is not working as it should and without a good working knowledge of WP it makes it twice as hard. Thanks for your links, they have helped in some ways. And will keep reading.
