• Hi, I hired someone from upwork.com to do some work on my website and when I hired them I created a log in for them to use whilst doing the work. After they completed the work I thought it would be a good idea to delete the user so they couldn’t log in again and make further unauthorised changes. When I did this, I wasn’t aware that with deleting a user it deletes all their content as well. I noticed on other posts that content can be transferred to other users upon deletion but I don’t remember seeing this option when I deleted it. So now all the content and work they did on the website has been deleted etc. Is there anyway of getting this content back? I don’t have any backups of the data as obviously it was done by a third party person. Any help would would be great!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Check the TRASH for posts and pages. I don’t think it trashes stuff, but it just might.

It’s YOUR responsibility to backup your site, not some dev you hired. A painful lesson.

Most of the content he created wasn’t done as posts or pages but thank you for that tip. Is there anyway to restore what was done in terms of coding and icons and pictures added etc.

    Nope.

There might be, but only if your hosting company has regular backups. If they do you can contact them and ask them to resotre a previous backup.

If they don’t then you’re out of luck.

As a recommendation, it’s a good idea to st up a backup system. What you’re going through now is only one reason why it’s useful, and could be avoided if you had something in place.

Thanks! Sorry I’m fairly basic when it comes to wordpress and website creation. So whats a hosting company? how do i know who that is and how do I set up a backup system?

The hosting comapny is who ever you pay for web hosting. You will be able to find that out from past bills, so if you don’t know your accounts people will be able to tell you the company name at least.

For setting up backups, there’s many ways to do this, all with different pros and cons. As a start, have a read through this article – https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/wordpress-backups/

Thanks for all your help! If you don’t mind just helping me with one more thing. I created a new user for another web developer to use and now suddenly the user has been deleted? I didn’t do it and no one else has access too so how is the user login just randomly being deleted??

How are you checking the user is deleted and how did you create the user?
