Deleted version of image (same name) still showing up on pages

I just flushed Photon’s cache for that image. The new image should get cached in the next 10-15 minutes.

I’ve just checked, and the results are a bit puzzling.

From my laptop (which, incidentally, is where I did all the image editing and from which I uploaded the images), the behavior has not changed. I just checked both before and after a reboot. That was with Chrome. And the laptop is running Windows 7.

Post-reboot, I’ve now also checked using IE9 and Firefox 17.0.1. Same behavior.

I checked with Firefox on another Windows 7 computer also, a computer that hadn’t yet visited my site. Same thing as originally reported.

I’ve also rebooted my tablet, an HP Touchpad running webOS v3.05, which uses a webkit-based browser. No change from last night, even after rebooting that as well.

On the plus side, when I checked with my iPhone 4S (Safari), without having rebooted it, I saw it initially load the implicated pages with the old image, but, without refreshing the page, I noted that the browser switched to the new image–either just after it finished loading the page or very close to the end of the loading.

So there’s a positive indication…though the rest of them seem unchanged…

I expect that I could just avoid this problem altogether by re-naming the new image and uploading that, replacing the images in my pages with that newly renamed image, but I would kind of like to understand what’s going on here, or at least how to prevent the problem…I usually like the filenames that I use…

Do you still experience issues today? It might be worth cleaning your browser caches as well, since the wrong image might be cached there too.

Hi! Everything (almost) seems now to be working as it should. The image seen in all places is the new image.

There is one oddity, however, and that is that the image does not show up on its attachment page: https://edwinli.com/ux/portfolio/portfolio-header-image-01/.

That is true of all browsers from my laptop, my iPhone 4S, and my HP Touchpad. Clicking/tapping on the empty box on the attachment page where the image should show leads to successfully showing the image on its own, again, in all tested browsers/devices.

Could that be an effect of something related here?

It works on my end too. Weird indeed. I’m not sure what happened here.

That’s correct. The first image was cached by the Photon module, and since the file name never changed, Photon kept serving that old image.

And would this have resolved itself over time?

It’s currently not possible to invalidate the cache; the images are cached “forever”. If you want to “refresh” an image you will need to change the name of the image.

If you uploaded the image on a different day and you have the setting for media to be set into folders based on the upload date, that might contribute somehow to the issue as well.

Just had the same experience — updated image on the site but old image being shown. EVEN after I had DELETED that old image and done the whole replacement bit for it. Am using the “Enable Media Replace” for the rest. Still the old images.

Read this thread — and deactivated the Photon in the Jetpack. Problem solved.

Lesson learned — while developing a site, keep that part of Jetpack turned off.

I was having this same problem, so I disabled Jetpack. Then I went back to the page that wasn’t working, and clicked the Update button. After that, the image started loading properly.
