I’ve deleted my domain name forwarding from my typepad weblog to swithc to wordpress on the same domain name (had it domain name mapped).

I’ve deleted all my wordpress files because I wanted them all in a directory at the root of my domain name. I’ve since realized the errors of my ways and reinstalled them all in a folder called wordpress. I can’t delete one file in the old folder wp-content/plugin_manager/tmp

Now when i try to login to setup my wordpress blog again, domain .com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    i can’t. I get this error message

    “WordPress
    Already Installed

You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

is there any way around this or do i have to clear out the old database tables and start from scratch?

    thanks

    Pete

  • You don’t say if you have backed up the existing database – have you ?

I did back it up but thought I couldn’t do it right so I ended up following the instructions and deleting all the tables and reinstalling wordpress and configuring it.

now I can only see the blog if i type https://www.domainname.com/wordpress. i would like to have my wordpress blog as my homepage.

    under options/general I have
    WordPress address (URI):www.domainname.com/wordpress
    Blog address (URI):www.domainname.com/wordpress

and I ftp’d wordpress as a folder to my host.

what should i change to have people just type in my domain name and get my wordpress blog?

should I change the wording on the domains under options?

Or should i just delete the whole wordpress folder again and just upload wordpress as all individual files (instead of the wordpress folder) and configure it once more?

    thanks

Since you’re still installing, just ditch the /wordpress/ folder and upload all of the WordPress files to your root directory.

thanks I tried that and installed it but it doesn’t show up when I go to https://www.domainname.com only when i go to https://domainname.com

I’ve tried changing the urls under options/general
    ie these one
    WordPress address (URI):
    Blog address (URI):

I’ve tried them with and without the www. in each one and it doesn’t work.

I have the wordpress files at my root folder. what do i need to do to get the www. part working?

    thanks

This is a problem with your host. Contact your hosting provider.

it was a hosting problem. with Godaddy assume incompetence until proven otherwise. It’s almost like you need to talk to a supervisor every time its’ something beyond ultra basic info.

    it’s up and running now.

    thanks
