I’ve just moved over to WP from PN, and am still finding difficulty navigating round the admin..

Where can I delete links that appear in the sidebar – eg.. the standard rss, validxhtml, xfn, wordpress.

    Thanks in advance

    Chris

but be minded .. in order to edit the sidebar.php as Dgold described .. you have to CHMOD the sidebar.php via a FTP client such as CuteFTP …

however, if you CHMOD the php files .. beware ..

I would personally just login thru the FTP client and change it there … and save it .. or if you have CONTROL PANEL access to your domain, do it there ..

@dp, how do you change it through the FTP client? For me when i want to do it that way, I have to login on FTP, browse to the file, download the file to my computer, edit it with another program (Notepad, Dreamweaver, etc), save the file on my computer, the reupload it on FTP (having to login again because by-now it has timed-out). I figured experienced coders have a faster way.

    Dgold …

    like I said .. I use CuteFTP (https://www.cuteftp.com/cuteftppro/).

Once I have successfully logged in to the site, I right click on the file I want to edit and select edit .. or you can highlight the file and go to the tools or file bar and find edit there .. this will open up a new window in CuteFTP .. and you find the line of code to edit and edit what you need and select save or (CTRL+S) and it is instantly saved ..

best thing i have found is if i make a mistake and need to go back to what I had before, cause I am not the best at editting and sometimes create typos, I just presss CTRL+Z and this takes me back to the code as it was before …

this eliminates the need to download and then upload.

Oh, cool. The CNTRL-Z to undo changes would be useful. Even after saving you can still Undo? Thanks for the tip. Wonder if this works with SmartFTP. Also wonder if either of these FTP programs will display the code with syntax highlighting (so PHP is 1 color, CSS divs are another color, etc).
