• There doesn’t seem to be anywhere else appropriate to leave a comment, but as someone who uses HTML almost daily and has done for over three years now and who also teaches it online, I had never touched either MySql or PHP before this evening, even to read anything about them so I had no idea whether this would work or not.

I sat down, read all the installation documentation carefully, checked the versions at my web host and had everything up – well not in five minutes but certainly less than half an hour! I’m impressed that this is so painless to set up.

I haven’t yet actually started on configuring the blog – that will have to wait until tomorrow – but I do not expect to have any more problems than I did setting up the database and .php files. I think this will be considerably easier to maintain than an online diary hand coded in HTML which I started some years ago and which I have now given up because it got so complicated and time consuming to maintain.

Thank you and I do hope it will be possible to pass on my comments to one of the developer team.

  • Gillie2tat,

Thanks for your feedback! Your comments will be appreciated by a lot of people who have contributed their time and talents to the whole WordPress project.

Your approach to getting started by getting as much information as you could beforehand no doubt contributed to your early successes.

Have fun with your project, and if you have questions, ideas, suggestions or comments of any kind, just post them back here at the forums.

Gillie2tat – thank YOU for taking the time to write your post here, it means a lot ??

I’ve also been thinking about writing one of these, so this seems like an opportune time to piggy-back on this one…

I’m very impressed with the support found here. The developers are always helpful, polite and patient. Before I decided on using WP, I did a lot of research on my choices for blogging software. Once I found Owen Winkler’s comparison list (https://www.asymptomatic.net/blogbreakdown.htm) I made up my mind to go with the choice he made: WP.

And about using WP: very clean interface and easy to use. If there’s ever a question about it or anything related to it all, like I said, the developers and the many visitors who come here are quick to respond with useful information.

    Great job everyone!!!
