I recently started having a problem where deliveries are failing using the Gmail API. I am blind copying about 50 users in my email and get the following returned for most users (I’ve modified my and the users email to prevent spam). I’ve upgraded to WordPress 4.3.1 but the problem started before this. It was working for a while but stopped a few days ago and I’m not sure why. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I will check it out; the API may have changed.

I tried the Gmail API on my own site. I had no problems.

If you notice, Google added a message at the top of your bounce indicating why the message was rejected. Google thinks it’s Spam.

Why Google thinks this email is Spam, I have no idea. Could be the content. Could be that you bcc’d 50 people. Could be the frequency this account sends email. I don’t see anything suspicious with what you’ve posted.

Thanks for looking in to this. I think this happened because I created a new Gmail account I was going to switch to in order to prevent mails coming from me. It was confusing people when people were subscribed to forum topics on bbPress and they thought they were from me (given the notifications come from my email). That new account I created had some of the same info (ie – name, same cell phone, linked to my other Gmail account, etc..). I wonder if Googles outgoing spam filter is smart enough to consider that someone is sending a mass BCC email from a Gmail account tied to the same cell phone/name as a few others. Either that or they just strengthened their spam filter such that I am no longer allowed to BCC 30 users at a time.

I decreased the batch BCC to 10 for next time and deleted the additional Gmail account I intended on using. I also had some shortcodes in the email that I’ll remove manually next time (maybe Gmail finds those suspicious). Hopefully that helps.

Google also has a contact form on that page if you want to explain to them why your message wasn’t spam. If they follow up with an explanation/remedy I’ll update this. Thanks again!

I would guess being a new account and mailing many new people at once is what got you bounced.

BTW, you can use Gmail’s Send Mail As feature together with Postman to change the email that appears in the From field.

    See https://support.google.com/mail/answer/22370?hl=en
    And related issues https://www.ads-software.com/tags/send-mail-as

Thanks. I hadn’t actually configured SMTP Postman to use that new address yet, it’s failing from the same account I had been using. I just sent a new message with just plain text and it they still all bounced. I’ll see if Google follows up with an explanation. Thanks again,
