• Hello, exports,

I HAVE LOST ALL OF MY WEB CONTENTS WHILST USING ‘DEMO IMPORTER’ feature – PLEASE HELP !!!

I was just using one of your great feature called “DEMO IMPORTER” and it was importing and in the middle, it failed and eventually I found; it has deleted all of the Pages, Posts, Users, etc from my production site.

Please suggest, how can I get all of my those contents back?
Why I didn’t get any warning before it does so?

Your helpful suggestion would definitely be appreciated.

  • Hi,

It is recommended to import the demo only on the fresh installation of WordPress to get the exact demo. The demo importer plugin leaves an alert message mentioning it as following:

    1. It will install the required plugin as well as activate them for installing the theme demo.
    2. You need to import demo on fresh WordPress install to exactly replicate the theme demo.
    3. None of the posts, pages, attachments or any other data already existing in your site will be deleted or modified.
    4. Copyright images will get replaced with other placeholder images.
    5. It will take some time to import the theme demo.

After this message, it is on the user on how would they like to proceed further.

However, if you’ve missed the message and imported the demo, it doesn’t delete old content though but just add the demo content to the existing site. I think the new demo import has changed some settings, but, the old data should be there on the WordPress Dashboard of your site. If you’re able to check those and make changes as necessary, you can do so to get back old site. If you need our help doing so, you can contact us from our chat support in our official site.

Considering the situation occurred in your case, we will check on this matter in detail and improve from our side also.

I hope this explanation helps you to understand the demo import and fix the issue.

Lastly, we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.

Well, I was relying on your 3rd point ie.
    3. None of the posts, pages, attachments or any other data already existing in your site will be deleted or modified.
So, I trusted and rely on that statement and apply the Demo Importer (which obviously failed in the middle) and once I refreshed the screen – all the contains were deleted. Furthermore, I literally went into the DB (tables) and it was empty.

Could you please suggest the way to recover it.

Suggestion:- could you please put the message in RED BOLD BLOCK that don’t ever try to use DEMO IMPORTER in existing site., in the meantime until you resolve that issue coz I do not want any other people to be victimized by it.

    Please suggest to resolve it.

    Hi,
We’ve tested this many times before and while checking the demo importer within our development environment with the Zakra theme after you’ve mentioned it, we’ve never found such issue and I could not replicate it while testing now. Our previous users have not also faced or mentioned about such issue. Similarly, even though if the demo import fails, it shouldn’t delete anything, as there’s no code in the demo importer plugin that deliberately deletes anything.

Since you’ve got the issue, maybe your site has been reset accidentally via other plugin or caused by other setup environments which we are not aware of.

Similarly, if you have checked within the database of your site and did not find the contents, we’re sorry that there is nothing we can do on our side. The best possible way to get back your site is taking help from the hosting provider of your site which usually takes weekly or daily backups. Please contact them to find if they have such a feature.

Finally, we really appreciate your suggestion and concern. We are always dedicated to improving Zakra theme and our other related plugins so we will take your feedback (more warning design implementation) in our upcoming one to two version updates. Also, if you could tell exact steps (more detailed) that caused this issue, we will try to replicate this issue and fix it if it needs fixing. Also, If you’re comfortable, can you contact via our chat support on our site? We might be able to assist you properly onto it over there.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.

It is looking like one of the Plugins you are using should be causing this issue. In fact, the “Import Demo” action failed and somehow any one of those (Theme or Plugins) involved should have reset the DB contents inherently.

Someone needs to debug that action Because I’ve already lost my production contains and I do not want anyone else to be victimized of it. Please, someone, debug that action.

Please keep posting and let us make the contains better.

    Hi,
Yes, we have checked on this but have not found any particular reason that would have caused this. We’ve not also recommended any plugin that could have caused the same issue. We are here to always improve the theme for our users and we’re continuously checking our demo importer plugin as well as the themes and if we find any such bug, it will be fixed as soon as we find it.
