In reply to: can not log into new blog back endmaybe some sort of weird permission issue i may have missed.
Maybe you could check the protection settings on your .htaccess file? It’s easy to set these so that Apache can’t read it.
how can I tell if my htacess file is not being read?
If it’s not being read because of a protection problem, you might expect to see that being recorded in a system error log file.

In reply to: could not upload photos wpmuwhat is the multisite feature
WPMU has now been superseded. Version 3.0 merged it with the standard WP version, which now has the multi-user features built-in.
There have been some terminology changes along the way, so what was known as a multi-user site is now known as a Network. Switching that feature on is known as creating a network, and instructions for that are in the codex here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Create_A_Network

In reply to: I opened my account with Noisyroom.comThat site’s not part of a Multisite installation, so you’re not really in the right place. You’ve registered for an individual WP blog, and will just have Subscriber rights. The blog’s Admin will have to give you additional rights if s/he wants you to contribute.

In reply to: MY BRAND PLUGIN VS CUSTOMIZE YOUR COMMUNITYwhen i click it goes to main website i started my MU site with. The problem is i deactivated it
You don’t say what you’re clicking, but deactivating the main blog seems a bad idea. Multi-Site code is likely to assume it’s active, which could cause you problems later.
I’d aim to turn the main blog into the one you want to keep by migrating content, or restoring it from a backup of the second blog.
AND THERE’S NO NEED FOR CAPS IN YOUR TITLE…

In reply to: Turn multisite child blog into a standalone siteThe Export is purely for exporting content; if you want everything else – such as additional tables created by plugins – you’ll need a backup.

In reply to: Disabling theme/plugins for a blog with no backendUsual approach is to use FTP to rename any suspect plugin(s) out the way, then visit the blog. If that’s the cause, you’ll get in, and the plugins will be deactivated automatically.

In reply to: Multisite to Singlesite For ClientsThe WordPress Export file created on Multisite uses the same format as single-user WordPress, so you can easily do this. Go to the Backend of the approved blog and export the contents to a WordPress export file (Tools/Export in MU 2.9.2). Then import that file from the single-user blog. You’ll clearly need the same plugins and themes to be available.

In reply to: Now Reading – dead since WP2.5This one died on me (WPMU 1.5.1) when I changed the database encoding from Latin-1 to UTF-8. If I remember right, examination of the logs showed that the plugin’s field lengths were so large that when I changed from one-byte per char Latin-1 to two-bytes-per-char UTF-8 MySQL’s maximum record length was being exceeded. Your log files will show if that’s what’s happening. Sorry, can’t remember the error message.

In reply to: TinyMCE image-edit garbleFYI – I’m seeing the same thing in WPMU 1.3.3, again under IE6, so I don’t think it’s just an upload issue.
