• I have found a message about a depreciated call in the admin.
Does anyone know about this or is this a false positive on depreciated calls?

Here is the message I found.

    Argument in current_user_can()
Used in wp-admin/includes/menu.php on line 102.

Usage of user levels by plugins and themes is deprecated. Use roles and capabilities instead.
    Deprecated in version 2.0.

  • And yes, I will dismiss out of hand the suggestion that I upload files I have already determined to be exactly the same as what is contained in a fresh download of WordPress.. That is both ridiculous and a waste of time…

…I have contacted 6 different plugin devs about issues their plugins have with deprecated calls. Each of them have either already updated their plugin or are in the process of doing so…

…I know what plugins are using deprecated calls, I have contacted them and they are making changes.

Yes, of course. Well, then. I guess all that’s left to do, is to see if you have debug mode turned on, (you probably shouldn’t have it turned on for a production site) and if so, turn it off and enjoy happy ignorant bliss. Sounds like you have it all well under control. Good luck, to you, and best wishes!

[edit] oops! I almost forgot. This might help with your diagnosis if you’re interested in pursuing it further. I hear the author of this plugin/tool is a pretty sharp guy. Log Deprecated Notices

    LOL!!!

That is just the plugin that brought these issues up.
No I don’t have debug mode on, I can’t with that plugin..

You have still not answered my question.

You apparently don’t want to answer or don’t have an answer.
Does the deprecated call being used in a WordPress file create a serious issue.

I told you I asked because I am trying to understand.. Now you make smart remarks to me.. and then you suggest I used the plugin that brought up the message that I originally published here.. Good job.. at least we are both aware of the usefulness of that plugin.. However, the usefulness of your responses is still in question, since you won’t answer my question.

Best wishes to you as well.

That is just the plugin that brought these issues up.

Are you friggin’ KIDDING ME?? You only see these with that plugin turned on???

You have still not answered my question…

    Really? Hmmm. Let’s see. You have pretty skillfully managed to completely avoid answering any of my direct questions while trying to help you address this issue;

..And just to be completely on the same page, if you activate the default wordpress theme, deactivate every plugin, clear your browser cache and revisit your site, the symptom does not change? That is something you have confirmed without doubt?

Allow me to elaborate with something a little more “useful”…

My interest wanes quickly when those asking for assistance are more intent on telling me how much they think they already know, rather than quickly and efficiently participating in a dialog of give and take that establishes an acceptable solution. – And that’s a right nice piece of evade and confuse you did there jasper, omitting that the errors were actually being generated by a plugin designed just to reveal them.

So here are your your answers: ??

    a)No it’s not a problem.

    b)Leave debugging off in wp-config.php

c)Deprecated does not mean “non-functioning”. Turn the plugin off, and forget about it.

d)“Now you make smart remarks to me.” You need to tone that crap down, forsooth an forthwith. Capiche?

Bell well, and stop worrying about nothing. Turn it off. Really. It ain’t broke. Now get outta’ here, ‘ya chucklehead.

Oh, so you can call names and be as nasty as you like and then tell me to get out of here… Very professional.. did you go to school to learn that?

I never said that the plugin was generating the errors. I told you that is the plugin that brought up the issues (in english) meaning, gave me the information I am using to ask my questions. That’s what that plugin does, logs and prints errors. You misread what I said, or I didn’t state it clear enough for you to understand.

I also told “esmi” that I had already done what she suggested. I had been looking for answers BEFORE asking for them. So you can comprehend, I HAVE ALREADY DONE WHAT WAS SUGGESTED AND WENT THROUGH THAT PROCESS.. I’M NOT GOING TO DO IT AGAIN.. I HAVE AN ACTIVE SITE I AM WORKING WITH!! YES, I HAVE CONFIRMED IT.. had you actually read what i said to esmi, you would have known that.

I told you the theme I have, I’m don’t need to tell you all the plugins I use if I am asking about the seriousness of a call that WordPress uses. If you had answered that question before you started calling me names, maybe I would have been gone a long time ago.. Your fault on that..

Because I tell you what I have done, now you want to get nasty about it and accuse me of telling you what I think I know? I simply told you that I don’t need to upload exact duplicates of files I have on my server. I told you what I have done to try to find out what was wrong.. I also asked about whether the issues were serious.. relating to WordPress using deprecated calls.

So, in order for you to answer my questions which I asked much earlier, and you ignored, pushing the issue which obviously you knew wasn’t an issue, you have to become a name caller cool..

You tell me to use a plugin and then you tell me to turn it off because I won’t see anything if it’s off.. you are a wonderful human being..

I installed the plugin because the admin was throwing errors in the dashboard home “plugins”.

I attempted to relate that I have been proactive in trying to find out what the issues are and that I have contacted plugin Dev’s. The only nasty responses have been from this forum.. The ignorant disregard for information being provided and people holding themselves out to be acting like professionals, then when I point out that they aren’t even looking in the right place, they stop helping.. Yeah.. Gladly .. I will leave.. all other devs have been appriative of finding out there were issues.. WordPress seems to be full of rather arrogant defensive people.. Sorry about that.. The software is great though..

[Edit] In fact, if you have any pull there at WordPress, delete my account.. I can sit back and be amused at what I see others go through on this site, I don’t need to ask any of you.. If I have a problem, I will get a book from now on.. Take care and I wish you all the success in life you can get..

Okay. It’s been interesting reading this but I don’t think anyone will object to this thread being closed.
