Could anyone please help me understand why the following information appears on my product results under the description on my Google shopping results? ?I’m using the latest versions and updates of Divi Builder, WooCommerence plus this plugin.

If anyone can tell me where it’s pulling the info from and how to get my my actual descriptions showing up, that would be great.

    (here’s it on Google’s shopping page – https://www.google.com/shopping/product/1?hl=en-US&q=Colortrac+smart+Scan&prds=epd:5150069923822285028,eto:5150069923822285028_0,pid:5150069923822285028&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjzuK_BtNWFAxWOQEEAHSoiC7AQ9pwGCAU)

    Hi @chrisbdm

This seems to be the expected behavior as the Divi theme and page builder format your content using custom shortcodes. Unfortunately, there’s no default option to remove the shortcode added by your theme or a page builder.

However, you can use this code snippet to specify that the short description should be synced to Google Merchant Center instead of the main description. We recommend adding code snippets via a child theme or using a plugin such as Code Snippets.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you. I will contact them.

Normally, would this information be pulled from the long and short descriptions on the product page?

    Hi @chrisbdm

By default, the plugin pulls from the long description. However, because you’re using the Divi builder, and the plugin syncs all the content, including the shortcode added by the Divi builder, I recommend using the short description.

Alternatively, you can use the default editor to add content to the product’s long description.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Would empty information in the long description box on the product page cause this issue? If data were to be filled in this box, would it resolve the issue?

    Hi @chrisbdm

Would empty information in the long description box on the product page cause this issue?

Yes, it could indeed cause another issue. Once you empty the description field, you will get the “This value should not be blank [description]” error.

If data were to be filled in this box, would it resolve the issue?

I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking here. Are you saying that you want to insert content without using the Divi builder? If so, then yes, that would solve the issue.

However, as I suggested earlier, the simplest solution is to sync the short description as the product description to the merchant center. If you do this, Google Merchant will use your short description as your product description. More info: https://woocommerce.com/document/google-listings-and-ads/faqs/#using-short-description

This means you can add basic information about the product in the short description field while still using the Divi builder for the long product description.

I hope this clarifies your concern. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Atm, the product page uses text modules to write the descriptions – the spaces for short and long descriptions have no text in them but now I understand that these need to be used.

If I were to update the product descriptions on my product pages, how would I go about getting my listings re-synced/updated?

    Hi @chrisbdm,

Thank you for your collaboration and understanding. In order to resync your products you can go to your domain’s /wp-admin/admin.php?page=connection-test-admin-page page.

You’ll find the options to resync a specific product or your whole catalog there.

    Please, keep us posted!

    Thanks!

Hi, I’ve tried @shameemreza idea of “However, you can use?this code snippet?to specify that the short description should be synced to Google Merchant Center instead of the main description. We recommend adding code snippets via a child theme or using a plugin such as?Code Snippets.” but having the same issue still.

I’ve also tried @omarfpg process of re-syncing my listings but not sure if this has worked or how long it takes Google to update anything I’ve amended. As of now, my listings still do not show my short description.

Do I need to tick Async? when I Sync All Products?

    Plugin Support Shameem R. a11n

    (@shameemreza)

    Hi @chrisbdm

To ensure we’re on the same page, have you added the code snippet to your child theme’s functions.php file? Additionally, are you continuing to use the Divi builder to add content to both the long and short descriptions? If that’s the case, the issue might persist.

Remember, you should always use the default editor to add content.

Do I need to tick Async? when I Sync All Products?

After you’ve updated all your short descriptions (if you added that code snippet to your theme), feel free to use the Sync All Products with Google Merchant Center tools. You can choose to use it with async or without.

Remember that once the process is complete, you’ll need to wait a bit for the product data to update in the merchant center.

I hope this provides some clarity. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
