I’m having an issue with description tags on normal pages. When the Blog2Social plugin is deactivated, the description tags (eg: og: description and twitter: description) display correctly when I view them via code inspection. When I activate the Blog2Social plugin, these two descriptions display Visual Composer shortcode instead of showing the page excerpt or meta description I’ve added to the page via Yoast SEO. When I try other Social Media posting plugins, they don’t affect these to description tags. What do you think may be causing the description tags to display Visual Composer shortcode rather than assigned meta descriptions? The odd thing is that normal blog posts display the description tags correctly. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated, as I love using this plugin so far.

I’ve kept the plugin activated to show my issue. And the issue can be seen on my homepage when inspecting the code.

I’m using the latest versions of WordPress at the time of this post ticket submission, as well as the latest version of Visual Composer and Blog2Social plugin.

I’ve managed to figure out the issue myself but thought I’d post the fix to my particular issue in case anyone else has the same issue.

By default, Blog2Social adds Open Graph and Twitter Card details to blog posts and pages. This seems to work fine for me for posts (in conjunction with Yoast SEO and Visual Composer), but it doesn’t work correctly with normal pages.

This can be disabled if you go to Settings > Social Meta Data. There are checkboxes for both Facebook and Twitter. When I uncheck these, Open Graph data appears correctly on my pages.

I used Visual Composer and Yoast SEO on both my pages and my posts, so I’m not too sure why the OG data doesn’t work correctly on pages with this combination of plugins.

    Hello @davemclean,

    Thanks for reaching out.

There are several ways to set Open Graph tags in the metadata of your website, as well as there are tools to help you do this. Blog2Social uses the first part of your page or blog post as the og:description for your meta tags. If there are shortcode tags, they are also pulled.
We assume Visual Composer uses the shortcode only on your pages, which is why you don’t see them in your meta tags for your blog posts.

Instead of using YoastSEO to edit your meta tags, you can also use Blog2Social to change the social meta tags in your editor mask. Go to “share on social media”, select your Facebook and customize your og:title, og:description etc. to your liking.

Alternatively, you can set these tags with Yoast and let Blog2Social deactivated.
Please keep in mind that you can’t edit the tags with Blog2Social while posting as long as the feature is deactivated though.

    Regarding Meta Tags in general:
If you use more than one plugin to set your meta tags you may get duplicate meta data and the social media networks will not know which meta tags to use.

I hope my information was helpful and feel free to get back to me if you have further questions about Blog2Social.
