I’ve just updated Neve to the latest version (forced because with my “old” version the Neve section on the Edit page/post was not working anymore with the latest WordPress version).

The update has broken or changed significantly the appareance of many elements of my website (links, buttons, menus, paddings, font awesome icons not working…). I’ve cleaned caches and it’s still broken.

Is this normal? Is there any solution to avoid or at least reduce all these new changes?

Is there a previous version of Neve without all these new changes that works with the latest WordPress?

IMHO this is a mess. If my site breaks after an update and it’s normal for you (not a bug that you will solve ASAP), then I have to stop using this theme.

  • Hi @migueltic,

Thank you for using Neve and for reaching out to us!

If you haven’t set up a child theme for your website yet, please be aware that updating the main theme could erase any modifications you’ve made. To keep your changes safe, we always recommend creating a child theme. This article provides a helpful guide on what a child theme is and how to create one – https://docs.themeisle.com/article/14-how-to-create-a-child-theme.

    Kind regards,

I was already using a child theme and the update broke my design anyway. So it has to be something else.

Can you provide a solution or at least ideas of what I can try to “unbroke” my design?

    Hi @migueltic,

Can you share some examples of how it looks broken VS working version of the website?
Does it get fixed if you rollback to the previous version?
Do you see any errors in the console of the browser when you visit the broken page?

Answers to these questions with screenshots would be very helpful, if you also have a link to a broken version of website we can take a look. Thanks!

I don’t have a working version of the website nor do I know how to rollback. I’ve just updated your theme and my design broke. I’m asking you for possible solutions (such as a rollback maybe), but so far I got only questions. It would be great if you could explain to me possible solutions (useful links are OK).

For example, one of the things that “broke” aree buttons. My buttons used to be all blue, now the are transparent on hover and have a white border when not on hover.

Lots of small things like this changed with the update (padding/margins, bold texts, etc etc) and it would be great to avoid having to solve all these issues one by one. And I would like to avoid having new unexpected changes in future theme updates.

I don’t see any errors on the browser console.

    Hi there,

    Sorry for the late reply.

I understand this can be frustrating.

Unfortunately, when updating from an old version of a theme to the newest one, there are cases where things break, depending on various reasons. This is why is recommended to always update in time, and to always backup your site before performing an update ( this way you can rollback to the previous version of the site, if things go bad ).

As we don’t have access to your site to know for sure, I can just suggest possible causes. One reason could be that you were using a child theme to customize options in the theme that were depended on specific elements from the parent theme. For example, if you’ve added some CSS to make all elements with a specific class, blue, and for some reason, we had to change that class, it’s normal for the CSS in the child theme to not work well, and to need some adjustments.

Something there can be also issues with other plugins, compatibility issues, or caching issues ( not just caching from plugins, but also from the hosting in some examples ).

As you can see there are a few possibilities, I hope something will help. If you’d also share your site URL would also help.

This is how you can use the rollback function from the theme, in case you are interested in getting back to the previous version of the theme https://docs.themeisle.com/article/744-how-to-rollback-your-theme-and-plugin

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Rodica
