Yes, there is an issue with your images but it is not because of the Featured image, This seems to be happening with your other images too, I guess it is one the Image Defer plugins you are using.

Can you list down the plugins that you are using?

it only works with design two… doesn′t work at all with design one for some reason – if i turn the plugin off then it does..but it would of course be nice if it worked with design one and lazyload plugin too.

As of now you can use design two now if its working with the plugin you have mentioned above, meanwhile we will test design one with Lazy load xt plugin and we will try to remove this bug and make it compatible with that plugin.
We have created a ticket about it in our Github, you can track it here https://github.com/ahmedkaludi/accelerated-mobile-pages/issues/350
