• Guys I need help.

I have 2 WordPress websites that I have been working on at work.

I am running a Desktop Virtual Server
I have copied the two websites from C:USER/Websites/
    to a Pen Drive

I installed the same Desktop server on my Laptop at home.
    Created the two website files
    (www.chillysounddj.dev)

When I then copy all the files from the Websites on the Pen drive to the Website file on the Laptop and try to open the site via the Desktop Server I get a HTTP 500 Internal Error

I am very new to the WordPress workings so can you please work me threw how to correct this set by set. Thanks Guys.

  • Not sure if this will address your problem, but it might.

The WP database can contain many URLs and paths in ‘serialized’ format where the string length is stored with the string. When you move a site, the old values in some of these must be replaced by new values. A simple search-and-replace of the strings will break the site unless the old and new ones are exactly the same length.

Here is an article with the steps I use to migrate (copy) a site: https://wordpress.mcdspot.com/2012/08/22/migrating-a-wordpress-site-step-by-step/
