Desperate Help Please!!

  • So utterly confused by this whole thing. I have been given this site by the last publicity officer for a university society, but i want to change it.

    Fiddling around i have managed to delete the style sheet (i know a little about html) and made the website look terrible. I just wanted to add a new template (that being Velle-elle from when i did a theme search). So a few question that if you could answer ASAP (so know one finds out i messed up the website) i would be eternally grateful!

    1) How do i upload new files?
    2) I don’t know where it’s hosted, it’s all very confusing for me. If i can’t upload new files, how do i find the content of ” wp-content/themes/blix/spring_flavour.css ” before i deleted it all?!?! So i can put it back to the way it was.
    3) How do i change the colours of the page in the theme above?

  • 1. Don’t mess with things that you don’t know what they are for…
    2. A little html knowledge is not enough!
    3. You upload new files (themes, for example) or older files from backup via FTP.
    4. If you don’t know where the site is hosted and you don’t have access to its administration (not the WP admin, but the site/domain admin, like cPanel or something sinilar) – you can’t do anything.
    5. Forget the colour change: learn how to administer your site first.

    Why are you so rude? I’ve put the old design back up, realised i could change colours by changing the style steet. Now all i need to know is how to change the logo (as it doesn’t go with the new colour scheme). I am assuming it is hosted on wordpress, because we are using Blix, the most simple design around.

    Thanks for telling me about the FTP thing though.

    P.S. And Blix is one of the nmost complicated themes, just FYI.

    Okay it may be complicated but it isn’t pretty. I’m sorry, but i’m under a lot of stress to get this done by 7pm. I downloaded FileZilla Server, but did i want the client to upload things. I just want to change one picture now! Tearing my hair out here!

    Usually, we use the FTP clinets (be it filezilla or other) to upload template files (of the themes) and image files for the themes/layout.

    If you need to upload an image for your custom theme/layout – then yes, use the FTP and upload it into the wp-content/themes/theme-name/images folder.

    For images that are meant to be in the posts – use the WP admin Write interface to upload.

    Can someone please help me? I made an error yesterday and changed my worpress admin to my blog…now I have no idea of how to post anything! It also does not look good anymore. I just want to change it back, but I cannnot get admin.
