Desperate to put zip on site

  • Hello,
    I am using WP 5.7.2 and I have been trying all sorts of things to upload a .zip file my visitors can download, but I keep getting the error message the file type is not supported for security reasons.

    I tried a few plugins, which made no difference and I also tried some modifications to config.php and functions.php, with no luck either.

    Can anyone help me out here, but please, post your solution in as plain English as possible.

    Have you tried https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-add-mime-types/

    Thank you for your reply.

    I just have, but I still get the same error message, unless I am using the wrong method.

    I create aa block and then select “File” and “Upload”.
    Is this the right way to do it?

    Are you using a file block? Did you add .zip as a permissible upload type with a plugin? If so, which plugin?

    Yes, I am using a file block and I did add a zip file as permissible in the plugin you just recommended to me, ie. WP Add Mime Types.

    I can’t reproduce that on a “clean” WP site (no plugins, 5.7.2), so there’s something interfering with this. This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    I did disable all other plugins (only 1) and used a default theme too.
    All to no avail.

    However, I think I found a plugin that does the trick: WP Download Manager.
    This seems to do what I want.
