Desperately slow website

  • Have taken over running a website for someone and they are complaining that both the front and (even more so) the back ends are so slow as to sometimes be unworkable.

    Speed tests from Pingdom are generally poor and I’ve tried a whole host of solutions. I used WP Supercache without much luck, I have used SmushIt on images, WP-Optimize, minified CSS and JS, moved as many scripts to the bottom as I can, added GZip compression.

    If anything, all my ‘solutions’ have made it worse. P3 Plugin Performance shows only a 34% impact from the plugins and I’m not sure any of them are the culprit.

    Can anyone shed any further light on how I can go about troubleshooting?
