For a long time the two plugins which I have listed in the repo did not change their active installation counters.

One had ~3000 downloads and ~1000 active installations showed at one point, but after that it seems to have stopped counting active installs, despite reaching 9000~ downloads. The other is in a similar situation with much less downloads since its new. Since it has few installs due to being new, the 10+ installs that it shows is definitely wrong, due to merely the development/test installs i have and my own sites i use that new plugin should account for that much. So i assume that the counts are not being updated.

This happened after WP repo moved to the new design/interface. Before things were working normally.

I noticed that a newly submitted plugin got its install count immediately updated its install counts in the next day.

So im wondering maybe its something that affects particular plugins?

What are the plugins in question?

You may be seeing effects of caching.

    Steve,

    One is this:

    The newer one is this:

I believe there isnt browser-caching going on on my side. Since downloads update as i visit the page and check, yet, install counter doesnt.

If its caching on WP org side, i dont know about that…

On the first, I see “Active Installations” at 1000+. I’m not sure what the next break point is. It doesn’t show exact counts.

I believe the next break point would be at 1500 – because at one point in the past few months, i saw it display 1500+, and in a few refreshes, it went back to 1000+ again. This was 1-2 weeks after WP org updated to the new interface. I thought “Ok, the counter-updating cron worked but somehow it was taken back”…

One could venture to say that the installs dropped down under 1500, but i see it highly unlikely since at ~3000 downloads it showed 1500 installs, and the retention rate was always close to 50%. Even if we consider retention rate fell and its nowhere near 50% now, i see it quite unlikely that there are 1000 installs for 9000+ downloads.

The break points are at the most significant digit.

    So, 10, 20, 30.. then 100, 200, 300.. then 1000, 2000, 3000.. then 10000, 20000, 30000.

I think you get the idea. 1500 is not a count it can display.

And no, the counters are working fine.

Also note that “Fewer than 10” means pretty much exactly what it says. It can be zero or 9 or anything in between.

I am pretty sure i saw 1500+ at one point. Its possible that what i saw was a test or something that has been taken back, however i am pretty sure about it. I see it quite unlikely that after 6000 more downloads and increasing feedback/communication with users, the active installs remained in between 1k-2k range as it was then.

In any case, i will assume this to be my mistake.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I’m absolutely certain that you did not see “1500+”, ever. ??

Nevertheless, you may take my word on how it works as absolute truth. I was there when it was added, actually standing next to the guy who was adding it. ??

If you have any questions about the system, feel free to email me. I’m otto at wordpress org. I’m happy to answer any questions that I can.
