Did WordPress ever introduce Caching?

Did wordpress ever start implementing automatic caching (without a plugin) in any of it’s versions? I’m working on a site and the changes take a couple of minutes to actually work. It’s only on later versions of wordpress that this happens.

How do I disable caching while in development?
