Didn't start with a child theme…

    Ugh…I never started with a child theme…I know, ridiculous! I had no idea what I was doing and found out about the whole child theme too late into the game. I’m using twenty twelve theme. Anyway, my site has been up and running, but it’s been acting up just recently. I need to fix things. I don’t know enough or have enough patience to try to fix what I have, but I think I’d like to create a new child theme and work on it slowly to get it where I want it. My question is this: Can I create a site to work on while my current site is up and (some what) running?

  • I too did not start out with a child’s theme. I did make a lot of changes to various php pages in the editor section; however, I do believe I can figure out which ones I did change.

    Since I have edited essentially my parent theme, should I rename that to a child’s theme and upload an unaltered parent’s theme? Or, should I keep my altered parent theme the way it is, upload a child’s theme and then swap the php pages that have been edited?

    I am very, very new to this so defining in the most simplistic terms would be appreciated!
