• Edited original review to say: This plugin did nothing to stop emojis from showing up on my site, but apparently it disables “emoji support” within WordPress.

So, fair warning to those looking to squash emojis altogether from showing up on your WordPress site: this plugin is not exactly what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to remove the added emoji functionality introduced into WordPress 4.2, this is your plugin, however. In that, it deserves five stars. So there they are.

I do think this plugin should be renamed, however, from “Disable Emojis” to “Disable Emoji Support” to avoid confusion.

This plugin does not disable emoji’s on your site, that is in fact not possible. It disables the extra support added by WordPress.

Wait, what? Isn’t this plugin supposed to disable emojis from working on your WordPress front end?

No, not at all. The plugin description says “This plugin disables the new emoji functionality in WordPress 4.2.”. Support for emoji’s is in your browser, WordPress simply adds additional functionality to display them in older browsers.

It would be really good if you could change your review rating, as the plugin is most likely doing exactly what it claims it will do ??

    Thanks ??

Some people have also confused emoji’s with emoticons (the little images that appear when you type :), ;), ?? etc.). But they are quite different.

Oh. So there is no way to keep people from pasting in an emoji (or a wall of them), hitting “post” or “reply” and having WordPress remove the emojis from the comment? That’s what I’m looking for, and when I saw “Disable Emojis” as your plugin name, I assumed that was what the outcome would be.

How do we keep posters/commenters from making emojis and having them honored by WordPress? I’d like to find a way to block them from being typed into the text field in the first place.

I’m going to test here by pasting in emojis. I’m assuming they’ll work, then? Here it goes:

    ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Yup. Looks like they worked just fine. Any way to stop that?

In the interim, I’ll remove my review. Sorry about that.

I’m not sure of any off the shelf way to do that sorry. It would be possible via a filter which selectively removed any emoji characters, but I don’t know of any such tool being available.

It would be great if you could remove your review ?? (it’s still marked as 1 star at the moment).

    Ryan,

After our dialog, I adjusted the review. Thanks for your time.
